A MINE DISASTER.
FUTILE ATTEMPT AT RESCUE. MEN OVERPOWERED BY GAS. TWENTY-THREE PERISH. Received June 9, 5.15 a.m. NEW YORK, June 8. During a fire in the Gold King mine at Gladstone, Colorado, thirtyfour men entered the workings to endeavour to rescue three missinir miners, but only fourteen returned. It is believed the rest were ovei 1 - powered by gas, twenty-three in all perishing.
