WELLINGTON Y.M.C.A. v. MASTERTON Y.M.C.A.

Teams from the Masterton and Wellington branches of the Y.M.C.A. met on the Basin Reserve, Wellington, yesterday, the game ending in a win for Wellington by 3 goals to nil. WELLINGTON LADIES v. HUIA. A match was played at Lansdowne yesterday afternoon, between Huia and Wellington Ladies' Hockey Club, and after a very keen game resulted in a win for the Huias by two goals to one. Half-way through the first spell the first score was registered. B'rom a good passing rush by the forwards, which ended in a scramble in the front of the goal Misa Richards

scored. Shortly after, from a rush from half-way, during which all the forwards passed the ball well, Miss Blornquist scored the second goal. During the second spell the Welling- , ton team played with much more vim, | and gave their opponents an anxious | time defending their goal, Misses Swindale and Webster being very prominent. However, good defensive work on the part of Misses Peters and La Roche removed play to midfield, where it was' transferred to Miss Richards, who, after a brilliant run down the line, had very hard luck in not scoring, the ball being well fielded by Wellington's goalkeeper. At this sta CT 'e the game was becoming very fast, and some excellent hitting was done. However, Wellington were not to be denied, and from an excellent rush from one end of the field they scored. Soon after this no-side was sounded. For the losers Misses Fisher, Moore and Munro were perhaps the most prominent. All the Huia forwards played a good game. The backs put in some good defensive work. Mr C. Carley was referee. After the match the visitors were entertained at afternoon tea. Mr H. Wright, on behalf of the Wellington team, thanked the Huias for their hospitality while the team were in Masterton. Mr C. Carley responded on behalf of the Huias.
