WELLINGTON BATTALION SHIELD. WON BY WANGANUI RIFLES. 13Y TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION. PALMKRSTON N.. June 3. The fourth annual competition for l!io Second Wellington Battalion shield was fired at Palmerston North to-day. The conditions were ten men aside, seven shots at 200, 500 and 600 yards ranges. Tne scores were as follow — Wanganui Rifles 900 Palmerston North Rifles 898 Manchester Riftes 881 Wanganui Guards 807 Wanganui Highland Rifles 806 Royal Rangitikei Rifles 779 Pahnerstor. Guards 757 Wanganui Irish Rifles 645 The highest score was made by a recruit in Palmerston North Rifles — viz., 97 oat of 105. Bugler Soler, of the winning team, a lad of fifteen, made the tine score of 95. The weather was fine, but a bright light and puffy wind made shcotirg somewhat difficult.
