THE HOPE OF SOCIALISTS.

While Socialists continue on the lines followed by the great majority of them—namely, the propagating of

erroneous theories of their own as to what must be the only solution of the various economic problems, they cannot expect to receive the support of that section of the community, (and a very large section it is), which feels that Socialist ideals and human nature are at present contending forces. Whether human nature can be moulded to suit the requirements of the present-day Socialist, or whether future Socialists will modify their aspirations to suit a human nature which cannot be moulded, is a question time alone can answer. But it is not uilcommon to find professed exponents of and believers in modern conceptions of Socialism who affirm that only revolutionary means can accomplish the desired end. From time immemorial the world has had experience of evolutionary Socialism, and where has it ended? The good accomplished, if any, was ephemeral. There is only one conclusion to be drawn, and that is that the true idea! can only be attained by means in keeping with its sublimity. As Mr John Hunter said in his addrsss on Monday night, the true- Socialism will be with us without us knowing of it, and it will be an achievement cf centuries, not days. Education—that i 3 our hope, and the hope of every nation in the world. We shall be educated to almost the last degree before we can comprehend such an enlightened prospect as universal brotherhood.
