Mr F. Tucker, a well-known settler, of Pongaroa, intends to take up his residence in 'lasmania. Mrs E. J. Hughes, of Pahiatua, who ha 3 been seriously ill for some weeks, is now making satisfactory progress towards recovery. The death occurred at Featherston on Monday night of Mr Solomon O'Donovan, the well-known chemist of that town, at the age of 70 years. The deceased had only been ailing since Saturday. Mr Henry Saint-George, who has been appointed the visiting Trinity College of Music examiner this year for Canada, New Zealand, atid Tasmania, will be due in Auckland on August I9th, travelling uy way of Vancouver. It is possible that Dr P. F. M'Evedy, the vice-captain of the British football team, will remain in New Zealand at the end nf the present tour. He is a native of Nelson, and has been studying in England for about eight years.
A pleasant function took place at Eketahuna, on Thursday when the local railway employees tendered a farewell social to acli lg-ganger Dryden, who has been transferred to the traffic department at Pahiatua. During the evening Mr Dryden was presented with a silver-mounted walking cane and a handsome mirror as a mark of esteem. The Rev. R. H. Blamires died at Oakley, Queensland, a few days ago. The "Brisbane Courier" says that "Mr Blamires, who was regarded as one of the ablest of the younger Methodist ministers, had spent his ministerial life in Queensland, having come from Victoria as a candidate for the ministry, and was ordained here. His father is one of the senior ministers in Victoria, and his four brothers - who are all members of the ministry -are stationed m New Zealand." '
