WAIRARAPA SOUTH COUNTY COUNCIL.

(From Our Own correpsondent). The monthly meeting of tho Wairarapa South County Council was held •at the County offices, Carterton, on Saturday. There were present:--Cra W. Perry (in the chair), F. Court, R. Barrer, D. Doughs, H. :S. Mason, Geo. Stevens, T. V. Moore, R. G. Welch, and J. Strang. The treasurer reported as follows : :Dr balance at Bank, of New Zealand, £991 Is 7d; receipts since last meeting, £613 18s 3d. ' A letter was received from the Department of Public Health, stating that arrangements were being made in connection with the isolation of a case of consumption at Clareville. The Featherston County Council wrote notifying the Council that the • question of the alteration of boundaries would be considered at its ■next meeting. A communication was read from the Department of Roads to the that suitable gravel reserves would be provided for in the Carrington estate, before it was opened for '•pujjHic selection, and' that the gravel pita would be reserved for the Crown and not for the use of the County. •Cr Stevens asked if the pits would only be for use on the Carrington .Estate, and the Clerk replied that they would. Mr H. C. Thompson, of Waingawa, waited on the Council with \regard to the question of alterations in connectin with cuttings contracted for. Mr Thompson stated that the road was a main road giving sole access to his property. On the rrKition »-of the Chairman, seconded .by Cr JMoore, it was decided that the Engineer report on the matter. Three settlers of Te Wharau wrote •'directing the Council's attention to the state of things existing on *.he fonced portion of Te Wharau-Flat Point Road, in which stock were allowed to roam at large, causing a nuisance to. the public. Cr Mooru reminded the Council that already . £7OO had been spent on the road, and it was worth while erecting a : gate to protect that portion, apart from the unmetalled portiun alto- ; gether. No action was taken in the matter. A letter was received from the Wellington and Wairarapa Charit:.able>Aid Board, stating that the expenses of two Wairarapa patients in the Otaki Sanatorium should be ifcorne by the Wairarapa District j-.Ho3pital Board. It was decided to • write applying for permission to erect <i shop on a disused gravpl reserve-at Dalefield. It was decided r.that n committee should go into the matter. Mr Davidson, of Masterton, wrote •offering to act as honorary ranker to vthe County. It was decided that Mr ...Davidson's offer be accepted. Mr R. K. Beetham. of Masterton, 'wrote asking for permission to put in a culvert on the road alongside • his property at Kourarau.Theproposed »culvertwouJcl be seven feet in length, 12 by 12, heart uf totara. The request was granted subject to the wcrk being done to the satisfaction of the Engineer. Permission .was given Mr Sutherland to erect a shecf for storage purposes, on the top of the hill in Admiral Road, on condition that the ..settlors be allowed to use the shed, » ( if they wanted to do so. Cr Moore moved, and Cr Welch 'seconded, (that the Engineer be to put the bridge on '/Taplin'sßoad in order. The motion >was carried. V Crs Welch and Stevens were api pointed to sign the rate rolls. It was decided that where necessary new culverts should be put in • on «Jje Tupurupuru Road. Accounts amounting to £7Ol 3s ■ were passed for.payment.
