Mr Henry Gaisford has, says a Press Association message, been elected president of the Bush Districts A. and P. Association. Mr V. A. Mills, of the Stock Department, Masterton, recently transferred to Dunedin, is succeeded by Mr E. Farringtoivof Auckland. Mrs and Miss Inder, who htve been residing in Palmerston North since Mr Inder took up his new postal duties in Masterton, expect to join him here to-morrow. Mr J. Collett, of Masterton, who is leaving for Sydney to-day, was entertained by a number of friems last evening and made the recipient of a presentation. Advice has been received in Carterton that Mr and Mrs Humphrey Callidter, who recently left Wellington by the Corinthic, have reached Tenerifi'e, and all are well. The death occurred on Saturday of Mr Ernest G. Reynolds, second son of Mr J. Reynolds, the well-known builder of Dai'nevirke. The late Mr Reynolds, who was about 40 years of age, leaves a wife and child to mourn their loss.
Mr J. O'Leary, of the Mastcrtoi. Football Club, received word, yesterday, that, as Mynott, the reserve back in the New Zealand football team to play the Anglo-British team, was unable to go to Dunedin. hu had been selected as first emergency. Owing, however, to an injury received in the Masterton-Greytown matcn on Saturday last, Mr O'Leary will be unable to go to Dunedin. The death occurred at Pahiatua, on Sunday, of Mr David Patchett, from heart" failure. The deceased, who was 56 years of age, had resided in Pahiatua for about seven years, coming previously from Canterbury. Mr Patchett was a leading member of the Methodist Church, and had been secretary of the Pahiatua School Committee for several years. A widow and grown up family are )eft to mourn their loss, and they will have the sympathy of a large circle of friends in their bereavement.
Miss Gertrude AupeiUy, n wellknown and popular Masterton young lady, was married at St. Matthew's Church, Masterton, yesterday, to Mr Thos. Rodgers, well-known in local musical circles. The bride was given away by her father, Mr Jesse Apperley, and wore a tailor-made costume and white hat. Miss Agne« Hogg was bridesmaid, and wore a cream serge coatume with hat to match. Mr A. Spratt was best man. The Rev. H. J. Edwards performed tie ceremony, after which a reception was held at the residence of the bride's parents in Church Street. Mr and Mrs Rodgers left by the afternoon train for Wellington on their honeymoon. Their future residence will be Wanganui.
A pioneer settler of the Dominion died at Dannevirke on Saturday, in the person of Mrs Sarah Field, relict of the late Mr William Field, of Carterton, Wairarapa. Deceased had been ailing for some months past, but a few weeks ago took a turn for the worse, and gradually sank. The late Mrs Field, who was 86 years of age, was born at Freston, in the county of Herefordshire, and was a daughter, of Mr-Richard and Mrs Sarah Corbett, of that county. In 1841 she was married William Field at Uilingswick, and with her husband left for New Zealand in 1856, arriving at Wellington in tha ship Indian Queen in January, 1857. They resided in Wellington for two or three years, and then settled at Carterton. Her husband pre-deceascd her about thirty years ago. She came to Dannevirke a little over a year ago. She leaves a large number of relatives, to mourn their loss, including Mrs Williams (daughter), of Carterton, and Mrs Hennon (a granddaughter), of Datinevirke.
