FINE ART PHOTOGRAPHY.

AN EXPERT EXPONENT,

The name of Mr H. Bartlett i 3 well-known all over the Dominion as a pioneer of beautiful and artistic portraiture, and capable judges place his productions in a position rivalling that of the leading English and American photographers. Interesting to Wairarapa residents will be the announcement appearing on the leader page of this morning's issue that Mr Bartlett has recently taken over the studios occupied by Messrs Wrigglesworth and Binns, at 7, Willis street, Wellington, where a particularly attractive display of his work is now being held. The exhibit includes his latest productions in "India Proof"—work which won : him a well-merited gold medal at the recent Christchurch Exhibition—besides many portiaita of interest to Wairarapa residents. In addition to the "India Proof" work, Mr Bartlett is showing other new processes, amongst which ' " Silverpoint" (miniature) and "Cosway" pictures stand out as very beautiful and loveiy. The "Silverpoint" pictures are undoubtedly very fine a happy combination of lense and pencil—and a striking example of Mr Bartlett's effort to raise photography above the mediocre. The popularity with which the return of the "miniature" has been received at Home has induced Mr Bartlett to experiment to some extent, and he certainly scores a success in these productions, which are decidely dainty and pleasing. Originality and taste characterises his work throughout, his p'ises in every instance being most effective, with a background suited to each particular picture. Mr Bartlett always appreciates a visit to his studio, quite irrespective of any sitting. He is confident his work will appeal to all persons of culture and taste.
