BOROUGH ROADS.
Last week we had a typical ex-. ample of Wairarnpa weather in midwinter, rain falling almost every day, and a fair quantity at that. As a consequence the roads in the borough are in a very bad state in places, the mud being inches deep. We have a legitimate cause for complaint, not only in our northern approach, but also in our southern approach, as the roadway between the school and Ku'ipuni Triangle was almost as bad as that beyond the Waipoua bridges during certain stages of last week's rain. The traffic is very considerable on this stretch of road, all the south bound traffic from town and the inward south traffic passing over the strip between the triangle and the first street intersecting Queen Street. This particular stretch badly needs attention. The Borough Works Committee should also not delay a day longer than is inevitable in reducing the level of the dangerous part of Queen Street where grading has been carried out. The graded portion is quite too steep for vehicles to use with safety, and the rain of las', week made it infinitely more so as the mud was very thick. In other parts of the borough there are roads which need a lot of surface trimming before they can be deemed safe for all classes of traffic. Lincoln Road in particular is in parts a very risky thoroughfare for vehicular traffic, and although a fairly large sum will be required to complete in a proper manner the work of street improvement, the Council should not hesitatetr. carry out immediately such work as is necessary to leave the roads at least safe.
