WELLINGTON EDUCATION BOARD.

MONTHLY MEETING

The monthly meeting of the Wellington Education Board was held on Thursday, there being present: The Chairman (Mr R Lee), and Messrs J. G. W. Aitken, M.P., A. W. Hogg, M.P., J. Kebhell, W. C. Buchanan, and Captain T. W. M'Donald. Th« Education Department intimated that a sufficient supply of dominion commemoration medals wa« now available for distribution among the scholars of the primary and high schools. The secretary was instructed to make arrangements for their distribution. Application was made by Mr A. R. G. Crawford for a lease of section 79, block'B, Makuri, and by Mr M. F. Murphy for a lease of the Maku school site. It was decided to advertise for tenders for the lease on a 21 years' tenure. The head teacher of Ballance School applied for the use of four acres of the Board's property in the Ballance township. This was granted. Some correspondence? was received with reference to the removal of the Managtiti School to the proposed new site. It was generally agreed that the matter had alroady received the fullest consideration of the Board, and that its previous decision —to remove the school —be adhered to.

The following recommendations of the Finance and Works Committee were adopted:—• Scarborough—That a subsidy be granted for improvements at residence on condition that the work is completed. Cross Creek —That repairs to residence chimney be carried out Dalefield—That roof repairs to residence be effected. Hukanui (use of reserve) — Thai; the school committee be informed that the teacher is entitled to occupy such part of the school reserve as is not required for school purposes. Mauriceville West—That the school committe be requested to observe the condition—that dancing should not in the old school —which was agreed to by their predecessors in office at the time when the school was fitted up for laboratory purposes. That the following be referred to the clerk of works for report:— (a) Rangitumau: Application for fencing; (b) Belvedere: General repairs.
