COLLIE CLUB ASSOCIATION.

FORMED IN MASTERTON. Ai meeting of delegates representing 1 the Dannevirke, Por,angahau;. Moawhanga, Awakino and Hawerai CoWe Clubs, was held in the Club Hotel, last evening, Mr A. C. Mortoni presiding. The Chairman, ii? his opening remarks explained that for somt considerable time past collie clubs throughout the North Island had felt that an association governing the whole of the clubs in existence was desiicacL The meeting had been called far, th© purpose of considering this matter. The ooject of such an association would be to regulate the datea< of trials held by each club and t©; ensure the payment of fees and subscriptions by competitors. In the past men competing at trials had failed upon many occasions to pay their entrance fees, and the clubs with which they were defaulters'had no remedy fair recovering the amounts due. With a governing body it would be different, as the names of those who failed to. pay their subscriptions would be posted with the secretaries of the affiliated clubs. On the other hand an association would be the means of improving the present standard of sheep dogs. This was much to be desired. It was pronosed also in the event of the formation of an association to hold championship trials each yeax, the place and time of eachimeeting to be decided upon later. There wenre ten clubs which would affiliate with an association, and it was considered that an annual subscription of £5 from each club would more than cover the yearly expenses. Mr H. Gaisford (Dannevirke) proposed, and Mr J. Grant (Poranagltau) seconded that an association be formed to be known as the North Island Collie Club Association^. Mr W. L. Faulkner (Mastertor.) said the matter was entirely one or ways and means. He did not consider that his club could guarantee to affiliate owing to the parlous condition of its exchequer. The speaker favoured the institution of such a body. Messrs J. McLeay. (Langdale), W. Reside and W. Weicn, iavoureu the formation of an association, but regretted that the Mssterton Club was not strong enough financially to affiliate immediately. Mr G. Sykes (Masterton) supported the motion in its entirety, stating that it would be the means of improving the financial.position of every club in tiie North Island. The motion was carried unanimously. It was decided that the affiliation fee be £5. Mr G. Sykes wa3 appointed secretary. Messrs A. C. Morton and G. Gateford were deputed to draft out the rules of the proposed association, and submit them for approval to the respective clubs affiliated. A committee comprising one delegate from each affiliated club was elected, three members present to form a quorum. It was decided to hold the first meeting of the association in Masterton duriner the first week in January.
