SEEING THE SIGHTS.

LONDON, May 27. Two hundred and thirty French officers and sailors were to-day shown the London sights and feted. Received May 28, 9.56 p.m. LONDON, May 28. A gala performance at Covent Garden was attended by their Majesties King Edward and Queen Alexandra, President Faliieres, the Prince of Wales, most of the Royal Family, and the rank and fashion of England. A large party of the officers and crews of the Leon Garncetta and the French destroyers were entertained in London, and afterwards visited the Exhibition. The Lord Mayor's reception was attended by many of the most distinguished men in the United Kingdom, including Messrs H. H. Asquith and A. J. Balfour and the Archbishop of Canterbury. In responding to the Recorder's address of welcome, M. Faliieres said that he rejoiced to see drawing daily closer the cordial relations of the two countries. At the Lord Mayor's banquet the Lord Mayor proposed the health of President Faliieres, who received an ovation. The President, in replying, gracefully described London as the hearth from which would radiate all the generous liberal ideas and indefeasible principles of all progress and civilisation. He referred to the sentiments of trust and lively sympathy animating France and Britain. The Government of the Republic strove with all its might to strengthen the happy relations of friendship and business uniting the two countries. He also referred to the brilliant success of the Franco-British Exhibition.
