WELLINGTON PROVINCIAL CONFERENCE.. ; St TELEGRAPH —PRKBS ASSOCIATION . FEILDING, May 27. ' The Farmers' Conference resumed its sitting to-day. The follown g remits were agreed to: —That tht jtime has arrived when the Union sas a whole must take a firm stand -against the Solcislitic party; that all liarmera candidates shall pledge • themselves to oppose all measures •idetrimental to the farming community, whether Government measures or -otherwise; that where more than ore candidate pledges himself vo do so, a ■•meeting of delegates from each •ibranch in the electorate be called by tho premier branch to decide which candidate is the most acceptable to the Union. Mr Moore (Makuri) proposed that i tho value of rural lands for taxation 1 and other purposes shall in future be determined by its producing value, not as at present by its sale value.— Tiie motion was seconded by Mr Whyte, und was carried. Mr K. B. McKenzie proposed that in order to encourage the planting f >of forest trees, that all land over .-Olio acre should bo exempt from the land tax and the local rates.— Nevins (Tenui) seconded the .motion, which was carried. Captain Hewitt (Palraerston) "jpoved that when permanent Go•vernment reserves adjoin priva a holdings (freehold or leasehold), tie v .-uid Department should pay half it o coat of fencing and keeping the fences in repair and destroying the noxious weeds. —This was seconded by Mr A. McGregor (Hunteryillt?) and carried. It was further resolved, that auctioneers license fees should he Ehared equally between the local bodies in whoso district the sales are held; that the names of the vendors and buyers of stock should be give|i when stock is sold by public auction; that it be a recommendation to the Farmers' Union to consider the advisability of selling beef by the weight; that the practice of trimming skins ;and hides before offering for sale bo • objected to; that the Stock and . Slaughtering Acts be more rigidly \ -enforced; that the Government be •asked to set aside a suitable area of land for, an Agricultural College for the North Island; that the Union urge County Councils to regulate the speed of motor cars on County roads; '" that the Government be asked to carry farmers in parties of six to experimental farms at excursion rates; that the advisabiltiy of the Union acting as land agents for farmers bo considered; that the executive recommend the setting up of a committee to consider the political .situation as aiTocting the Union, and make suggestions to the Culonial Executive in revising the political platform of the Union; and that t'he Conference supports compulsory universal military training. The following officers were elected: —President, Mr J. G. Wilson (re- - elected); Vice-President, Mr J. C. •Cooper; Executive, Messrs Owen •Campbell, G. C. Wheeler, W. J. Birch, Captain Hewitt, D. H. Guthrie, F. F. JBockly, W. B. Matheson, H. A. Nevins, T. Moss, J. H. Escott, -J. 0. D. McGregor, S. J. Carman; Delegates to Colonial Conference, Messrs J. C. Cocper, F. F. Hockly.
