OUSTING FOREIGNERS.

Are the railway companies of the United States preparing to enter politics? The query is suggested by the action of the Pennsylvania Railroad Company in issuing orders to discharge all foreign employees and empby none but American voters in future. This decision affects only labourers, as the office force, operating, and mechanical departments have always been managed by Eng-lish-speaking men. When the order was promulgated the company's foreman declined to obey it thinking that there most be some mistake, because many of the foreign employees wtie giving satisfaction and had been trained to the work. Then came instructions to the effect that none but voters would be carried on the pay-roll in future. The stand taken up by the Pennsylvania Company, which employs over I°o,ooo men, leads tu the belief that the railroad companies of the United States intend to enter politics and to use their influence in order to prevent cartain practices carried on by them being interfered with by the State legislatures.
