THE NORTHERN APPROACH.
The northern approach has again lapsed into a slough of despond, and must undoubtedly rank among the sights of the kind in the Dominion as the winter advances. The roadway is positively impassable for bicycles along and beyond the farther bridge, and this despite the fact that by far the greater number of vehicles ford the river in preference to negotiating the quagmire on the highway. The near bridge, with its tottering superstructure is certainly a most inappropriate entrance to one of the finest country streets in New Zealand. Serious accidents have taken place in the past, and serious accidents will, probably, occur in the future unless substantial improvements are speedily effected. The condition of the northern approach does not reflect creditably upon the residents of the town and district of Masterton.
