FRIENDLY SOCIETIES' DEMONSTRATION.
WHAT IT WILL BE
Tue Hospital Sunday Demonstration organised by the Masterton Friendly Societies' Council, which takes place on Sunday next, promises to be a marked success. The arrangements made are very complete, and the Council have left no stone unturned to ensure a large collection being taken. Already over thirty ladies have promised to act as collectors. under the direction of Miss Gilj lespie, whose ability as organiser of the Ambulance Saturday collection resulted in a large amount being collected for that institution on a recent occasion. The Council conceived the idea of selling Hospital Sunday badges at 1.3 each. Anyone purchasing one of these badges and displaying it is
promised immunity from further molestation on the part of the ladies, and already over £3O worth cf these badges have found buyer?. O.ie lady who took a dozen to sell, sold and resold them until she had received £2 15s for the dozen. Permission has been obtained from the Rugby Union for the ladies to collect on the Showgrounds on the occasion of the British-Wairarapa football match on Saturday, and a large band of collectors will be on hand on that occasion to collect subscriptions from the pattons of Uie mutch. The buuday procession promises to be something out of the ordinary as far as Masterton is concerned, comprising as it will members of all the five lodges in full regalia, the Fire Brigade, the Fire Police and four
bands. Tue order of procession will j be as follows: —Municipal Band, Oddfellows Lodge, Fire Brigade, Hibernian Lodge, Masterton South Band, Kechabite Lodge, Fire Police, Pipers Band", Druids Lodge, and Salvation Army Band. The procession will start from the Borough Council Chambers in Chapel street at 2 p.m., thence along Queen strept to the Kuripuni 'iriangle. doubling round and back down Queen street to Park street, and into the Park. Messrs J. Dixon, G. Hood and T. Jenkins are the marshals. From the Park Rotunda speeches appropriate to the occasion will ue delivered by Mr A. W. Hogg, Esq., M.P., Mr P. L. Hollings, (Mayor), Mr J. B. Keith (Chairman of the Hospital Trustees), and Mr H. J. O'Leary (President of the Friendly Societies' Council), and the foui bands will render selections during the afternoon. All ladies who have promised to assist are requested to meet at the Dominion Hall to receive collection boxes at 2 p.m. on Saturday, returning the boxes at 9 p.m. and taking them again at 2 p.m. on Sunday to be handed in at 5 p.m.
