FOOTBALL.

THE BRITISH TEAM. BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION. WELLINGTON, May 19. The British football team had a goad practice on the Athletic Park this morning, and this afternoon gymnastic work was gone through. The visitors have expressed a desire to have the Athletic Park entirely to themselves for the purpose of training, and the New Zealand Rugby Union is doing all it can to ensure the visitors' desire. In order to enable the visitors to grasp any differences that may exist between the rulings of the New Zealand referees and those of England in regard to the laws of football, a special meeting of the Wellington Referees' Association is to.be held nex,t week, when the British team will be invited to attend and to discuss with the referees any points that may seem to require elucidation. WELLINGTON, May 19. While the British footballers were practising at the Athletic Park, this afternoon, H. H. Vassall, of Oxford, scored two tries, and each time injured his right shoulder. It may be a month before he is able to play. This is particularly unfortunate for the visitors because Vassall is considered one of the most brilliant men of the team. THE TEAM'S MOVEMENTS AT MASTERTON. Tha local football authorities were informed yesterday that the English team will arrive here on Friday evening, and stay until Monday morning. His Worship the Mayor decided last evening that the bast time to give the visitors a public welcome would be immediately on their arrival. Therefore on Friday evening the 8.30 train from Wellington, which brings up the team, will be met by various public officials, Bands, Fire Brigade' and Fire Police, and an escort will be formed to accompany the team to the Drill Hall, where speeches of welcome will be delivered. Several prominent officials from the New Zealand Rugby Union will also come to Masterton with the team. Local footballers are making great preparations to entertain their guests, and the Englishmen should leave Masterton with a good impression of local hospitality.

The following will represent Albion 11., in their match against Liberals, at Carterton, to-morrow: —E. Osmond, P. Haftka, T. Ellis, G. Davies, H. Jones, G. Barr, A. Keeble, B. Morris, T. Green, W.
