MR WRAGGE'S WEATHER FORECASTS.
DID HE PREDICT THE DROUGHT? J1> .,.-^
A rdrres{3i):!d<*i)fc has wrftfen 1 13 asking if we call Sityply any infoi'" mation regarding a prophesy' made by Mr Clement Wragge", the wellknown meteorologist, late of Australia, in respect of the weather which might be expected during the seven years succeeding the date of his forecast. Our correspondent says he was informed that Mr Wragge predicted the drought of last season, and also foretold another drought this season, and wishes to know if this is correct. It was early in 1904 that Mr Wragge visited Masterton on the ocasion of his lecturing tour of New Zealand, which was about the time he made a forecast which created some interest at the time, predicting as it did momentous times in droughts and other weather cycles. However, the celebrated weather prophet made no special reference to any particular year of drought when lecturing in Masterton; in fact, the most important forecast he made was as follows:—"The approach of the solar maximum, which will be reached about the end of the present year (1904) will be attended by phenomena of a more or less disastrous nature. Afterwards there may be expected a cycle characterised by more equable conditions, probably with less rainfall, and with a probability of more aggravated conditions." We believe, however, that the prophecy alluded to by our correspondent was more definite as regards the seasons of drought. We have been unable to locate a record of it in our files. Possibly a reader can supply the information asked. \
