THE GREEN ISLAND STRIKE.
DUNEDIN, May 16. At a meeting of the miners on strike at Christie Brothers' mine, SaddtaHill, it was resolved: "That the men employed-Sri'No. 2 mine do not go to work until the check inspectors have made their inspection, and that the men be paid for all time lost." ■ This was re f used by Christie Brothers, who submitted the following terms of settlement:— That if it be shown that the mine is unsafe, and proved that Christie Brothers wrong in refusing the check inspectors permission to inspect the mines, Christie Brothers pay all expenses and wages of the men who lost their work. - The men have been urged to accept this by the Inspector of Mines and Labour, and the men will probably agree to it at a meeting to bo hold to-night. ' /LATER. Christie Brothers lodged £ll 6s 3d with the Labour Department to pay expensss and wages yestsiMay. It is understood that the Mines Department will take proceedings against them for refusing to allow check inspectors into the mine. The inspection takes place this afternoon, and nrobably work will be resumed on Monday.
