MASTERTON TELEPHONE SERVICE.
We are pleased to note that, the Masterton Chamber of Commerce has decided to act upon our suggestion in regard to ascertaining whether the subscribers to the Masterton Telephone are desirous of enjoying the privilege of having a continuous telephone service. As we stated in a recent issue, we are strongly of the.opinion that the time has arrived when this town should have a continuous service, and the advantages it carries, compared with the trifling extra cost, are so great that we think subscribers will be only too pleased to avail themselves of the offer made by the Department. The proposed improved service means that the telephone exchange will be open to subscribers at any hour of the night or day, including Sundays. Constant communication will thus be possible with the Empire City. Palmerston North has just recently adopted the system, and the increased advantages are greatly appreciated by the subscribers. From enquiries we have made, it appears that the service was obtained through the efforts of the Palmerston North Chamber of Commerce, which employed a canvasser to explain to subscribers the advantages of the system. The signatures of two-thirds of the five hundred subscribers were obtained, and on this being submitted to the Department the improved service was granted. The movement is a forward one, and we trust the efforts of the local Chamber of Commerce will meet with success.
