CRUELTY TO A CHILD. A SHOCKING CASE. BY TELEGRAPH PKKKH ASSOCIATION. FEILDING, May 14. A shocking case of cruelty to a child by a mother came before Mr A. D. Thomson, S.M., to-day. A pjirl, fifteen yearn old, gave evidence, which was corroborated, that her ordinary working clothes" were only a filthy nightdress and a tattered pinafore. The doctor, who had examined the girl, stated that she was literally coverej with bruises, all over her body, inflicted by her mother, Mrs Fogßarty. The girl had been frequently left without meals. The father of the girl was living in Auckland. The Magistrate said the case was a most painful and shocking one. It was almost incredible that a mother could have so neglected and abused her child. Cut for the fact that accused had small children he would have sent her to prison. A fine of £lO with £2 7s costs was inflicted.
