A PRISONER RECAPTURED.

AUCKLAND, May 14. Easton, the escaped prisoner, was recaptured at Rangitaiki. When confronted by Constables Ryan and Neill, he had concealed in his trous ers pocket a fully-loaded five-chamber revolver.

Ryan, observing a peculiar movement on the part of Easton, sprang upon him and handcuffed him as he drew the revolver. Easton remarked, "You were a bit too smart for me, or I would have put a couple into you."

After escaping from camp, Easton, representing himself to be a warder pursuing an escaped prisoner, borrowed a horse from a roadman. He rode the horse within a mile of Taupo, and then cast it adrift, throwing saddle and bridle into some scrub.
