CHARGE OF MANSLAUGHTER.
Ill' TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION. CHRISTCHURCH, May 13. Wm. Kobinson has been arrested on a charge of manslaughter of his mother who died at Sydenham.
On Monday the sudden death of an elderly woman, Mrs Margaret Robinson, a widow residing at Sydenham, was reported to the police. A sergeant and a constable proceeded to the cottage to remove the body to the morgue, and discovered a condition of affairs that for filth, and squalor could hardly be imagined. The body lay in a bed in an indescribable condition, while the bed-clothes were simply awful with filth. A son and daughter of the deceased gave evidence at the inquest that their mother injured her back three weeks ago and had been in bed ever since, but no doctor had been called in. The medical evidence given was to the effect that death was due to pleurisy and advanced pneumonia. The woman's life could have been saved with care and attention. The jury returned a verdict that the deceased had died from pneumonia, death being accelerated by gross neglect on the part of her son and daughter.
