THE ELLIOTT CASE.
ADDITIONAL CHARGES
ACCUSED REMANDED TILL FRIDAY.
Albert Clarence Elliott, whose affairs have been prominently before the public recently, and who gave himself up to the police at Auckland on Sunday, and was remanded to Wellington by the magistrate on Monday, arrived at Wellington on Tuesday night, and appeared before Mr Riddell, S.M., yesterday morning on several charges of fraudulent conversion and false protences. He was charged first with receiving £l2 from Henry Robson Wood on te*ms requiring him to account for the same to Sir Kenneth Douglas, and fraudulently converting the same, thereby committing theft. Similar charges referred to £BO received from Vera Tregear on the 21st December last, and £3OO from Mary Robinson on 'this 22nd January. Charges of false pretences were made in regard to the same sum of £3OO obtained from Mary Robinson, a sum of £7OO. obtained from Sydenham James Flewellyri, on the 20th March, and a sum of £2OO from Earnest Henry Anderson on the 31st March, each sum 'with intent to defraud. Mr Myers, for the Crown, stated that they were prepared to go on with the case at once, but he understood that the accused desired a remand in. order to have opportunity of consulting counsel. It was desirable, however, that the case should be heard as soon as possible, as the Supreme Court sittings commenced next week. The evidence would only take half a day. Mr J. J. M'Grath stated that, he had been instructed to ask for a remand in order that the accused might go into affairs with counsel. After consultation, the accused was remanded to Friday afternoon, at 2.15. Bail was fixed at £3OO and two sureties of £l5O each. —"Evening Post."
