"THE FOOTBALL MATCH"

A correspondent in this morning' 3 issue suggests that business places in Masterton should be closed from 1 o'clock until 6 p.m. on the occasion of the approaching football match, England versus Wairarapa and Bush. Football is the national game of the dominion, and it is a game worthy of enthusiastic support, if not of sacrifice to some extent. The event referred to will, no doubt, be the cause of a great display of enthusiasm in the Wairarapa, and it is one of supreme importance and excitement in football circles. We have no doubt that the visitors will carry away with tbem good impressions of the Wairarapa, both as regards football and hospitality, and we feel sure th.it Masterton will demonstrate the pride and pleasure that . it takes in our great national game. ■ The proposal that the business places should be closed for a few hours is, it seems to us, both sympathetic and practical in character. Little business in any case will be done during the progress of the match, while the suggestion made, if carried out, would entail no loss to employers nor inconvenience to the public generally, and numerous employees would be gratc- ' ful for the concession.
