HIGH COMMISSIONER'S REPORT.

The High Commissioner cabled as follows from London under date May 9th: —The mutton market is weak and inactive except for light weights. The following are the current quotations; — Canterbury mutton 4&d, North Island 33d, River Plate 3|d. The lamb market is firm, and there is an improved demand. Canterbury brands are quoted at s£d, other than Canterbury at s£ci. The beef market is dull, and very lii.le business is doing. Hindquarters are quoted at 3.2 d, and forequarters at 3j|d. The butter market is firm at an advance. Light shipments are expected. New Zealand butter is quoted at 114s, Danish 116s, Australian 108s, Siberian 108s per cwt. l'he cheese market is slightly weaker. There is' less demand and stock is accumulating. New Zealand is quoted at 59s per owt. The hemp market is quiet, and has declined. The stock held in London amounts to 452 tons. The current quotations are Good fair grade on the spot £25 10s, fair grade on the spot £24, current Manila on the spot £24, June-to-July shipments, good
