There is a storm of indignation at Broken Hill over the charges made in the Presbyterian Assembly in vegard to the religious state of the city. The Assembly declares that the Rev. Mr Paterson's strictures have been misapprehended. He only made the allegation that he found in his field of work certain anti-Christian forces, but he made no general charge against Broken Hill. A TRIANGULAR STRIKE. CURIOUS POSITION IN SYDNEY. Received May 11, 10.30 a.m. SYDNEY, May 11. The atrike of painters, which continues, presents rather unusual features, owing to the triangular nature of the fight. The master builders took a hand in the dispute, and the master painters resented interference between and their men, with the result that the builders have been carrying out their own painting work by day labour. The painters, therefore, although on strike, have been at work, and at a rate above that paid by the master painters.

SHARP EARTHQUAKE SHOCK.

Received May 11, 10.30 a.m. PERTH, May 11. A sharp earthquake shock, causing houses to rock, has been felt in the north-west. It was accompanied by heavy rumbling.
