WELLINGTON WOOL AND SKIN SALES.
Levin and Co., Ltd., report as follows:—We held our fortnightly sale on Friday, offering a small quantity of wool in bales and bags, 1,000 skins, 830 hides, and a quantity of tallow- and horsehair. Wool—Market weak and depressing. Rales can only be made at lower rates. We quote:— Medium crossbred, 3d to 4|d; inferior, 2d to 3d; lambs wool, 4d to sd; pieces' and locks, Id to 2d. Skins—ln sympathy with advices received by cable to-day of a fall of a halfpenny to a penny in London, prices fell here to an equal extent. We quote—Fine crossbreds, 4d to 4Jd; crossbred, 3d to 4d; dead skins, 2d to 3d; dead hoggets, 14d to 2Jd; dry pelts, Id to l£d; lamb skins, 3d to 3|d; green pelts, 2s to 2s 9d; green lambs, woolly, 2s to 2s 9d; green lamb pelts, Is to Is 9d. Tallow —Steady. Parcels in shipping order £22. Tins £ls to £l9. Rough fat £lO to £l3. Horsehair, Is to Is 3d per lb. Horns, 5s to 17s 6d per hundred. Cowtails, Is 6d to Is 8d per dozen. Hides —We had a heavy catalogue of hides, which were well competed for at last sale prices. We quote —Ox hides, heavy, 6d to 6§d; ox hides, medium, 6d to 6|d;ox hides, light, 4d to sd; cow hide,*, ,32dto4id; cut and slippy hides, 2d to 3£d; stag hides, 2Jd to3Jd;bull hides, 2d to 2|d; calf, best, 4d to sfjd; calf, cut and slippy, 2d to 3d. Our next sale will be held on Friday, May 2nd, 1908.
The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., report:— Our fortnightly sale was held on Friday in the presence of a good attendance of buyers. The anticipated drop in Loudon sheepskin sales predicted in our last report has unfortunately eventuated, the sales there recently disclosing a fall of to lid per lb in all grades of skins. We did not offer any wool at Friday's sales, preferring to hold until a little later in the year, when we shall have a fair sized catalogue to offer buyers. We quote:—Sheepskins—Half-bred, 4d to s|d per lb; crossbred full wool, 3|d to 4d; crossbred half wool, 3sd to 3fd; crossbred pelts, 2Jd to 3d; crossbred, damaged, id to 3d; lambs, 3d to 4d ; pelts, green, Is 7d to 2s Sdeach; lambs, Is to Is 16. Hides —The Australian markets are again easier. We quote—Medium ox, 4d to 4Jd per lb; li,.cht ox,3|d to 3£d; cow 3id to 4id; hidv.*, damaged, l£d to 3d; calf, sound, to 4fjd; calf, clamaged, lid to 2d. Tallow —Medium quality in shipping order, 23s to 23d 3d per cwt.; odd packages, 15s to 20s 6d per cwt.
