Received May 10, 4.23 p.m. NEW YORK, May 9. ', Harry Orchard, murderer of Mr • ■ Steuneuberg, Governor of Idaho, in 1899,. has, .against his own protest, been reprieved ■ until July. He declares that he prefers to he handed, as , even his fellow prisoners shun K him. Orchard and another man first decided to kill Governor, Steunenberg "with a bomb and planted one at his gate, but it failed to'explode. JThey concluded that it would be better to , shoot the Governor. Orchard tried
once to shoot Steunenberg, and then I made two attempts with bombs, the second proving fatal as the victim , -entered the gata leading to his residence in Saratoga.
