KNOX'S YOUNG PEOPLE'S ASSOCIATION.

ANNUAL MEETING

The annual meeting of members of the Young People's Association of Knox Church was held in the schoolroom at the rear of the church last evening, and was well attended by male and female members. The Rev. A. T. Thompson presided, and in ( opening the meeting referred *,o the , good work that had been accomplish- ( ed last year by the Association, both . intellectually and socially, it was, : he said, gratifying to see so much interest taken in the institution, and it augured well for the future success of the Association. A number of young members of the Methodist Church had last year thrown in their lot with the Association, but this season had decided to form an Association of their own, and in all probability debates would be arranged between the two bodies during the winter months, which would mutually benefit the members of both Associations. Tne secretary of the institution, Mr Chamberlain, submitted a report which stated that the twelve meetings held during the year were very well attended, and all attained their object in giving an abundance of scope for intellectual culture and social intercourse. The aim of the association to do some permanent and material work, had bsen successful, and during the session funds had been raised, and- a piano purchased. A tennis lawn had been laid down in front of the Manse. The total number of members was 109, of which 92 had paid their subscriptions. The balance-sheet showed the receipts for the year to be £49 15s lOd, whicti sum had been raised by subscriptions, donations, etc. In laying down a tennis court in front of the Manse the Association had been compelled, in order to complete the work, to raise a loan of £9. Two pounds of the amount borrowed had been repaid, leaving the Society's liability £7. An effort is to be made to immediately wipe off the amount owing. The Association has a cash balance of 15s lOd. The report and balance sheet were adopted. The office-bearers for the ensuing year were elected, and the remainder of the evening was spent in listening to vocal and instrumental ■ items rendered by various members. ■ Refreshments were provided by the ladies.
