Received May 8, 10.25 a.m.. LONDON, May 7. Mr Ernest Aves, the well-known writer on economical subjects, giving evidence before the House of Commons Home Work Committee, said that though wages boards worked well in Australia in fixing legal minimum wages, British trades presented formidable difficulties in the way of such a course. In. the event of a large increase of Australian immigration it would, probably be impossible to maintain the present rate of wagesSpeaking generally, Mr Aves considered the success of the boards' determinations was contingent upon protection. The tendency of the determinations was to weaken trade unions.
