HOCKEY.
MAJOR CUP COMPETITION. The weather was somewhat bleak for the competitions of the Wai • r'arapa Hockey Association, which was commenced yesterday at Lansdc\wne, where the W.F.C.A. A team and Y.M.C.A. and Carterton A and W.F.C.A. B teams met. There was a fair attendance of the public,- and much interest was taken in the matches played, especially by the lady spectators, who were quite enthusiastic over the games.
W.F.C.A. A v. Y.M.C.A. The W.F.C.A. A team met and defeated Y.M.C.A. team by two goals (hit by Minett and Schubert} ta one goal (scored by Brown. Both scores were registered during the first half of the game, there being no score in the second spell. The match was well contested, the teams being very eyenly matched. Mr O'Meara was referee. CARTERTON A v. W.F.C.A. B. The visitors in this match had a very easy task set them, and registered seven goals. The local team was unable to pilot the ball between their opponents' goal post 3, and the game ended Carterton seven goals, W.F.C.A. nil. Mr Mcintosh controlled the game. KNOX v. CARTERTON B.
The Knox team defeated Carterton B, at Carterton, by five goals to nil. Goals were registered for Knox by D. Loader, J. Gray, W. Hornblow, 0. lbbetson and J. Wing.
