The only explanation is that the tariff reform movement is growing in force. THE OPIUM EVIL. LICENSE OF DENS IN CROWN COLONIES. Received May 8, 12.12 a.m. LONDON, May 7. In the House of Commons Mr W. Johnson's resolution urging the Government to take steps to speedily terminate the license of opium dens in Crown colonies was accepted by the Government and unanimously agreed to. , Sir Edward Grey tmphasised the remarkable results of the right kind that had been achieved in a short time by China in suppressing the opium habit. SCOTTISH EDUCATION BILL. READ A SECOND TIME. Received May 7, 8.8 a.m. LONDON, May 6. The Education (Scotland) Bill, introduced by Captain Sinclair, Secretarv for Scotland, has been read, a second time in the House of Commons without a division. The Bill strengthens the provision for secondary education in Scotland.
