BREACH OF WATERSIDE WORKERS' AWARD.
AUCKLAND, May 6. Hutldart Parker and Co. were charged before the Arbitration Court with a breach of the waterside workers' award, by working men continuously without stoppage for meals. Evidence was given that a gang of men worked for thirty- ix hours coitinuously on March 9:h loading the Wimmera. The Company contended that the circumstances were exceptional. The .secretary of the Union snid that he was not in a position to doubt the statement that the men did not want to stop for supper, preferring to fi.iish and get honif. Judge Sim said that the, Union should not bring cases unless there had been a substantial preach. This was only a technical breach, and not one for a penalty, and it would merely be recorded.
