FIRE AT HASTINGS.

HASTINGS, May 6. E. Newbigin's Burton Brewery, an old two-storey wooden building, was demolished by fire at daybreak. Newbigin went through the building at 1 a.m. and everything appeared to be safe. He surmises that the coal stacked alongside the boiler caught fire. Only the books were saved. The fire brigade formed a bucket brigade, owing to no water being available for the steamer. The stock was insured for £4,000 in the Alliance office, and the building for £BSO in the National office. The cellars and stores wore heaviy stocked. It is estimated that the loss is fully £2,000 over the insurance.
