TURF NOTES. (By "Zetland.") The Wellington autumn meeting was concluded au Trcntliam on Saturday. The course and surroundings were seen nearly at their best, and the attendance was large and representative. The racirg track, was in ' letter condition than on the first day, and factor tlinea were registered

throughout. Racing commenced with the Hurdles, of one mile and a half. Sen Sim was made a decided favourite, while Aeolus was also strongly supported. The pair ran very disappointingly, and finished absolutely last, victory going to the outsider of the five, Repulse, the only one able to make him gallop being Royal Blue, who finished in a much gamer fashion than he usually does. For the Hutt Plandicap, of one mile, Toa Tuhi was the public's first selection. He got away well, led for a furlong, and then retired to the back rank, where he stayed. Clanchattan and Kurawaka then cut out the running, and, in a fine finish, the former won by a short head, with Moscow a good third. Merrie Zealand was among the starters, but was not prominent at any part of the race. Wailethe repeated her first day's form by winning the Mnritai Hack Handicap very easily from the heavily backed Taitoko. Then came the Autumn Handicap, of one mile and a quarter. All the accentors faced the starter, and in a fairly even despatch, in which Moloch' and White Lie had the worst of it. Marguerite and Carissima led the way for seven furlongs, when Stratagem went up tn them. Rounding the home bend Tangimoana joined issue, and in a good finish had to be shaken up to beat White Lie, who made up a lot of ground in the last two furlongs. San Julie finished fourth, while Moloch was some distance back.

The St. Lege'- Stakes was the next to come up for decision. Backers were at a loss to know which of the five contestants to select, inasmuch as it was difficult to tell how they would'run out a mile and three quarters. Gold Crest and Al! Red were the best supported, but students of breeding averred that the Pilgrim's Progress Ma Mie Rosette colt, Signor, who had run second to Zimmerman in the Great Autumn at Christchurch on Easter Tuesday, was the only one with staying credentials. Ba this as it may, Signor soon had his opponents in trouble, and won | handsomely in the good time of" 3min Bsea». AH Red put in a good run at the finish, and .there are hopes that with age he may develop into a stayer. Glenculloch Gold Crest and The Libvan ran like moderates. The Pacific Handicap, of five furlongs, only brought out three starters, Moriarity, Mon Ami and Gipsy Belle, ' the latter, a two-year-old, by Stepniak Belle Clair. Two-year-olds always have the best of the weights in these short sprints, and it was therefore not surprising 1 to find the filly run away from the other pair and win very comfortably. Motoa. Ballarat, Sunhonnet, Kitchenmaid, Aboriginal and All Guns, six very brilliant •sprinters, went out for the Suburban Handicap. AH were very evenly backed, Ballarat starting a better favourite than SunI bonnet. The race was to a certain | extent spoiled by a faulty despatch, of which Aboriginal got all the best and Motoa the worst. Aboriginal led from start to finish, and staling off a challenge by Motoa, who had to make up a lot of ground, won by nearly a length. The racing was brought to a conclusion with the Belmont Hack Handicap. The race was looked upon as a certainty for Sir Frisco, but he was beaten very easily by Penates, who galloped with more determination than he did on Wednesday. A number of Wairarapa horses are being taken over to Blenheim today to take part at the Marlborough meeting, which opens on Wednesday. J. A. Farmer, trainer of Elevation, and S. Reid, who went over to Australia to ride the colt, returned last week. Elevation was not brought back, as he had not recoved sufficiently from the effects of the break-down, which was occasioned by the straining of a ligament.
