MAJOKITY OF OFFICERS PERISH.
Received May 1, 8.40 a.m. TOKIO, April 30. The Matsushima was anchored off Makung, a town on the western coast of the principal island of the Pescadores, when her magazine exploded. The vessel foundered, only her bridge being visible. Two cruisers rescued one hundred and forty-one of the crew, including some officers, but the majority, including the captain, perished. The ship's complement of three hundred included fifty-eight cadets.
