THE Wairarapa Age MORNING DAILY. FRIDAY, MAY 1, 1908. SHOW AMALGAMATION.

The Wairarapa an 1 East Coast Pastoral and Agricultural Society yesterday decided by a huge' majority not to amalgamate with the Masterton Agricultural and Pastoral Association for the holding of one diatrict show at Solway. The matter of coal-*.; ition may therefore be considered as ended for the time being. The southern society is perfectly justified m the decision that it has come to. It must be allowed to know its oven business best. Whether the decision ia a wise one is another matter; time will demonstrate the wisdom of the conclusion come to. MeanwhiJe,' if the society iu satialud no one has any ground for complaint. The movement for the amalgamation emanated from members of the southern body, and though the- Masterton society would havo gladly welcomed tho combination of the two shows, as being better for tho whole district, it never at any time placed itself in antagonism to tho Carterton show. The great complaint of exhibitors is that there are too many shows, and

there is a growing tendency to place exhibits at the show which is most central and likely to best represent an entire district. It is certain that Solway will meet the requirements of the Wairarapa exhibitors better than any other locality in the district, and it will also be more convenient for exhibitors beyond the boundaries of the Wairarapa. The decision of the Wairarapa and East Coast Pastoral and Agricultural Society, while regrettable, is not likely to seriously affect the Solway show, because a considerable percentage of southern exhibitors are pledged to support the latter, and exhibits from Hawke's Bay and the West Coast will more than counterbalance any loss occasioned by the continuance of the annual show at Carterton.
