MANUFACTURE OF DIAMONDS.
THE CASE OF M. LEMOINE. Received! May 1, 12.5 a.m. LONDON, April 30. M. Lemoine consents to the London Bank surrendering to the French judicial authorities the secret formula, on the examining magistrate agreeing not to open the packet until the expiry of the two months required for the manufacture of diamonds. M. Lemoine states that the envelope merely contains a formula for the manufacture of bort (diamonds too course for ornamental setting, or small fragments of pure diamonds used when reduced to a powder for polishing and grinding).
Lemoine is charged with obtaining money from Sir Julius Wernher under false pretences. He led him to believe that he could manufacture diamonds, and Sir Julius advanced him money. He has been released on condition that he proves, within two months, that he is able to manufacture diamonds. Lemoine states that his secret formula is contained in a sealed envelope in the London Bank.
