The Rev. Owen Lloyd Willliams, who last month was appointed Chancellor of Bangor Cathedral, is one of i those clergymen who find scope for usefulness beyond the pulpit and the routine of clerical life. He has long been noted for his association with the lifeboat in the seaside parishes to which he has been appointed, and has been the mcana of saving many lives. Mr Williams was commander of the lifeboat at Llanrhyddlad, for many years. Two years after he was ordained —in 1854 —he went out with the lifeboat on a fearful night off Anglesea, and saved twenty-four lives; and a few years later, when ministering in Carnarvonshire, he again went out, and brought back another twenty-four men to safety. When in 1870, the Kenihvorth was wrecked, Mr Williams went out in command of the lifeboat, and rescued the entire crew, for which he was awarded the silver medal of the Lifeboat Institution. On another occasion he was out for twenty-four hours standing by the vessel Dusty Miller until she was dragged olf the dangerous St. PatI rick's Causeway, for which he was given a second clasp and a pair of silver-mounted binoculars. Old age compelled this worthy pastor to relinquish the command of the lifeboat. One can only hope that after the splendid turmoil of a long life the ga'.lant divine may enjoy the remainder of bis life in peace, and that when finally he "puts out to sea" there may be "no moaning on tha bar."
