THE BRAYBROOK RAILWAY DISASTER.
TESTS ON THE BENDIGO TRAIN. BRAKES EFFICIENT.
Received April 29, 10.23 a.m.
MELBOURNE, April 29
In the presence of the coroner and a number of experts, tests were made of tht Bendigo train under conditions similar to those existing at the time of the Braybrook accident. The second engine in use at the time of the collision was employed, and the carriages were loaded with sandbags of the approximate weight of the passengers.
All the suspended engitiemen, excepting Milburn, were on the train. The trials proved that the brakes were efficient for stopping the train. The claims for injuries sustained in the accident have increased to three hundred and seventy-eight. The Stats Cabinet has decided to appoint a Royal Commission to enquire into the accident. Mr Justice Cussen will be president.
