MASTERTON BOROUGH COUNCIL.
ORDINARY MEETING. The ordinary meeting of the Bor- I ough Council was held ir. the Council Chambers last evening. The Mayor [Mr J. M. Coradine) presided, and there were also present Crs. Yarr, Prentice, Pragnell, Elliott, Morris, Ewington, and Pauling. Messrs Robinson and Robinson, solicitors, applied on behalf of Mr John Hunter to have the seal of the Council affixed to the deed of lease between the Wellington Diocese and John Hunter, consenting to a right of way to the rear of the Academy Buildings, the same being portion of th-j right of way granted to Mr P. Hamill on August 30th, 1907. It was decided that as soon as the sum of £l2 is deposited with the Council the seal be attached to the deed and the work be carried out as soon as convenient.
The secretary of the Masterton South Band, Mr F. Harding, wrote asking the Council for a donation towards paying off the balance due on the instruments. Cr Morris moved that the sum of £2 2s be voted to the Band, but eventually it was decided that the Acting Town Clerk write to the Band for a balance sheet, and the matter be then referred to the Finance Commititee for a reprort. Mr H. H. Reynolds wrote requesting the Council to erect a street lamp in Renall Street, situated north of Chapel Street intersection. Mr Reynolds' letter pointed out mat an additional lamp was necessary rw'ing to the increasing number of residents in that locality. A visit of inspection would convince the Councillors of the necessity of an extra lamp. The Mayor moved, and Cr Pragnell seconded, that the letter be referred to the Gas Committee for a report on this and other matters relating to the better lighting of u number of streets in the Borough. The secretary of the New Zealand Municipal Association, Mr Martin, wrote advising the Council that the Bi-ennial Conference of the Association is to be held in July, and requested the Council to forward at once any remit it desired to have brought up at the Conference; also to submit the names of the Council's delegates. It was decided to refer the matter to all the committees of the Council, asking them to discuss any questions which they considerd of importance, and place them before the Council with a view to bringing them before the Conference.
