The Shakespeare Festival opened on Thursday with a brilliant ceremony at Strati'ord-on-Avon. Tributes to the memory of Sir Henry Campbell-Bannerman by Mr Deakin, Federal Premier, and Sir Joseph Ward, Premier of New Zealand, are published by the "Daily Chronicle."
Russia, Germany, Sweden, and Denmark have signed a convention for preservation of the status quo in the Baltic, The convention contains a clause reserving Russia's sovereign rights. This leaves the door open for a possible revival of the Aland Island qnestion. The North Sea agreement between Great Britain and Germany, providing for the maintenance of the status quo in countries bordering the German Ocean, has been signed at Berlin.
Great Britain, F ranee, and Sweden have signed a document abrogating the Stockholm Treaty of 1855 as regards Sweden. 1 !
