General Linievitch, formerly Commandant of the Russian troops in the Far East, is dead. LONDON, April 24.

The steamer Hagen, bound for Fvemantle, lying off the Goodwin Sands, shipped a cargo of explosives from a German tug. The action is exciting comment.

The Shakespeare Festival opened on Thursday with a brilliant ceremony at Strati'ord-on-Avon. Russia, Germany, Sweden, and Denmark have signed a convention for preservation of the status quo in the Baltic, The convention contains a clause reserving Russia's sovereign rights. This leaves the door open for a possible revival of the Aland Island qnestion. The North Sea agreement between Great Britain and Germany, providing for the maintenance of the status quo in countries bordering the German Ocean, has been signed at Berlin.

Great Britain, F ranee, and Sweden have signed a document abrogating the Stockholm Treaty of 1855 as regards Sweden. 1 !
