THE RIMUTAKA INCLINE.
A remarkable bit of scenery and still more remarkable monument of engineering skill, is furnished by the Kimutaka incline, which has been photographed times without number. The sale of pictures in New Zealand of this scenery and the remarkable railway incline, more especially among the travelling public, hag been phenomenal, something like 1&O.OO0 having been disposed of. The views ahowing the train in tb'i act of asacending, drawn by four Fell engines, are striking in the extreme, and are much sought after, for however opinions may differ as to the wisdom of taking the line up this tremendous gradient there can be no doubt of the formidable character of the task which the engineers undertook, or of the wild beauty,of the sceno as one travels slowly upwards. Mr C. C. Aitken, the wellknown bookseller, of Masterton, with characteristic enterprise, has just had executed in England 1,500 enlarged prints of the four-engine train on its way up. We have seen a proof of this work, which is now placed on the market at 5s per copy, and it is certainly one of the handsomest New Zealand views that has yet been put into frame. The work j should command a ready sale.
