PERSONAL.

Mr and Mrs Henry Carlson, of Dannevirke, intend making a trip to the South Sea Islands shortly. Mr James Ewart, of Masterton, who has been sei'iously ill for several weeks past, is now improving somewhat in health.

Miss K. C. o'Donovan, second daughter of Mr S. O'Donovan, of Featherston, was married to Mr W. Chambers, of Wellington, on Tuesday last, at Featherston. On Wednesday last, at the residence of the bride's parents, Tawaha, Miss Clara Elizabeth Cotterill was married to Mr J. C. E. Chapman.

At Kaponga, on Wednesday last, Mr F. W. York, of Papawai, Greytown, was married to Miss E. E. Wilson, daughter of the late Mr J. Wilson, of Havelock, Marlborough. At Waiorongomai, Western Lake, on Tuesday last, Miss Carrie Matthews, daughter of Mr Alfred Matthews, was married to Mr Hugh Akers, of Palmerston North. Misses Enid Matthews and Akers were the bridesmaids, and Mr H. Matthews was best man.

Mr J. G. Barrett, of the Masterton railway staff, has received notice that he is to be transferred to Wellington, and will leave for that city on Monday. Mr Barrett has been a prominent member of the Masterton Orchestral Society and Wesleyan Church choir for some years past, and will be much missed in local musical circles.

The death occurred, at the residence of her daughter, Mrs A. Lwn, Masterton, yesterday afternoon, of Mrs Remington, wife of Mr s A. E. Remington, M.P., for Kangitikei. Mrs Remington had been un a visit to her daughter, who is seriously ill, while Mr Remington was visiting his constituents in the hack blocks of Rangitikei. Mrs Remington was taken suddenly ill on Monday, and death resulted at 4.30 o'clock yesterday afternoon. Mr Remington was unaware that anything was wrong until he received a telegram at Taihape on Thursday intimating his wife's sudden and serious illness, and hastened to Master ton as soon as possible, arriving here by the Napier mail train at 3.30 o'clock yesterday afternoon, just in time to be recognised by iiis wife before she died. The deceased was a native of Sussex, England, and was 57 years of age. Two daughters, Mrs A. Lewin, of Masterton, and Mrs F. C. Remington, of Wellington, and one eon, Mr Harry Edwards, of New Plymouth, besides Mr Remington are left to mourn their loss. Mr Remington and his family will have the sincerest sympathy of a large circle of friends in their sad bereavement. The funeral will take nlace to morrow, leaving the residence of Mr A. Lewin.
