BYE ELECTIONS. Received April 20, 9.43 a.m. LONDON, April 19. Mr Winston Churchill, in the course of an address at Manchester, speaking on behalf of Mr Asquith, declared that the education question must be settled by compromise, or by the adoption of the secular system. Received April 20, 9.37 a.m. LONDON, April 19. Mr VV. Boyd-Carpenter, Conservative, will oppose the Right Hon. W. Runciman on his offering himself for re-election for Devvsbury. Mr Turner, a Labourite, will also stand. Received April 20, 10.11 p.m. LONDON, April 20. ! It is estimated that 500 out of 800 Irish electors in Manchester will support the manifesto of the local priesthood urging them not to allow Mr ; Churchill to betray them a second ' time on the education question, but to vote solid for Mr Joynaon-Hicks. ' Iha local leaders of the Irish Leagu» of Great Britain are rallying , the Irish vote for Mr Churchill. This direct flouting of Mr Redmond is interpreted as a sign of an inward struggle for supremacy |;by the counsels of the Nationalist Party.
