MASTERTON v. ATHLETIC.

A team from the Athletic Club <Wellington)visited Masterton onFri--day.and played a match against a Masterton team Club on Saturday on the .Showgrounds. Though the weather was showery the state of the ground •was not affected to any great extent, •and the game, which resulted in a win for Masterton by six points to .three, proved very fast for so early in the season. Neither side was .fully representative of its club, the visitors especially having i number ■of juniors in their ranks. The game was interesting all through, and -occasionally there were flashes of brilliancy. Masterton was superior in the back division, J. O'Leary being especially conspicuous, but the visitors' forward play overwhelmed that of the local team. J. O'Leary .scored a try for Masterton and Darvill Jacket a penalty goal, while, for the metropolitan team, G. Wilson crossed the line, and his brother, A. Wilson, with the kick at goal. Mr E. McKenzie refereed in a highly satisfactory manner. f The Red Star juniors and Polhill v (Wellington) played a match in Eraser's paddock, Masterton, on Saturday afternoon, the game ending in a draw.
