THE LOSS OF THE BEGA.
OFFICIAL ENQUIRY. SYDNEY, April 16. The enquiry i nto the loss of the Illawarra Company's steamer Sega, which was lost on the south coast during the night of April sth has commenced. Evidence was given by the passengers to the effect that the vessel had a list-when.she left the wharf at Tathra. One of the boats was very leaky, and the only bailer was a boot. Great difficulty was experienced in keeping her afloat. One passenger deposed to being handed a knife by a.sailor and asked to cut the painter of the women's boat. Other evidence was given that the Bega was carrying less cargo than usual, and that .the .cargo was well stowed.
