REPORTED LAMENESS OP ELEVATION. _ m BY TKLEaKAni—-PRESS ASSOCIATION WELLINGTON, April 15. In connection with the cable message from Sydney, that Elevation had displayed signs of lameness after doing a gallop yesterday morning, at Randwick, no confirmation of the report has been received by Mr W. E. Bidwill. Elevation has, at times, an action which might deceive course watchers, and it may prove to be the case of a jarred joint or a muscle strain. In the absence of advice from the trainer of Elevation* Mr W. H. Turnbull, who represents Mr W. E. Bidwill, is of opinion that nothing can be seriously amiss with the colt. SYDNEY, April 15. The "Herald" states that Elevation's lameness is clue to hi 3 striking himself badly. Received April, Jls, 11.15 p.m. SYDNEY, April 15. Elevation has been given quiet exercise. He seems-very sore. THE AUSTRALIAN TURF. INCREASING STAKES. Received April 15, 9.45 a.m. SYDNEY, April 14. The Jockey Club has increased the entrance fee of members to twenty guineas. Stakes for various events next year have been increased by £4,150, including the Derby to £3,000, Spring Stakes to £I,OOO, and Metropolitan and Sydney Cup each to £2,500. SEMI-FINAL GALLOPS. Received April 15, 11.43 a.m. SYDNEY. April 15. In the semi-final gallops, Maranui, with the right weight up, did a pleasing six furlongs in lmin 17Jjsec; Waipuna, seven furlongs in lmin 33sec; and Togo, an easy mile in lmin 49sec. Poseidon rattled over ten furlongs in 2min 13& sec the best gallop of the morning.
