The friends of Mrs Adamson, of Pahintua, will regret to hear that she is seriously ill. Mr W. H. Gifford, who' has been transferred to the Mastsrton railway staff, was entsrtainud at a farewell social by a number of friends, and presented with a Kaiapoi rug, dressing casp, silver serviette ring, and a silver-mounted cigarette holder. A Press Association telegram from Napier states that Mr J. G. Gilberd, for many years Supeiintendent of the Napier Volunteer Fire Brigade, was, last night, entertained at a H:rioka concert by the Brigade, who made him a presentation. The Mayor and others spoke eulogistically of the services rendered by Mr Ghberd, who is leaving on a trip to the Old Country. . Mr R. J. Foss, headmaster of Upper Plain school, has received word that ha has been successful in the November examinations of the New Zealand University in obtaining two Certificates of Proficiency with B.A. standard. ; The subjects tulcen by Mr Foss were education, and applied "mathematics. Mr Foss's m tny fronds will be pleased to learn of his success.
